 Role     : Logo Designer

CLIENT

FADx is the Faculty of Arts and Design’s annual graduate creative showcase. It celebrates the achievements of our graduating students and allows them to develop and display their best work for family, friends, industry, and the public.

Through FADx we encourage students to reflect on their education and what they have achieved throughout their degree, who they are as emerging professionals, and how to effectively communicate their accumulated knowledge and skills to prospective employers.

Background

Our annual creative showcase is back this year, and we are handing the design over to you1 Faculty of Arts and Design students are invited to enter our branding competition for FADx 2020, and the winner will be paid to implement their design across digital and print.

Challenges

Design symbols, logos, and select colour palettes to reflect a fresh and exciting image, while supplementing the five principles of FAD-- Arts, Communication and Media, Design, Built Environment and UC Brisbane. Our team created graphics, logos, posters and patterns and realized the brand identity that fits with FAD.

Aim & Requirements

Design the Brand Identity for FADx 2020 and should be required to work with the existing X symbol, and must incorporate “the Faculty of Arts and Design Graduate Showcase” to create an identity system that expands upon this symbol. The brand needs to consider five separate and distinct disciplines, but also create consistency and unity between them when they are brought together.

The five disciplines of FAD are:

  •  Arts

  •  Communication and Media

  •  Design

  •  Built Environment

  •  UC Brisbane

Process

Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, our team members cannot discuss and communicate face to face, which has brought us a lot of inconvenience to a certain extent. We sketch our ideas or write them out and discuss them on the Internet.

We follow the fresh, uplifting, looking for inspiration. It is found that the simultaneous appearance of yellow and black can give a strong visual impact. And yellow can make us feel fresh and uplifting. We decided to use yellow, black and white as our colour palette.

Thanks to FADx 2020 Branding Competition, I have had an enjoyable experience in this logo design competition. I am very fortunate to present this work with two smart and capable girls in this extraordinary period.

Some of the experiences in this illustrated book are:

  • Find a design method that suits me—mood board. After this competition, I discovered the importance of mood board to designers. When images, colours, types, and materials are combined, it helps me involved to decide on a specific direction to go, which makes it easier for me to find my goal.

  • Record inspiration. Some inspirations are fleeting. If they not recorded in time, it may take a long, long time to remember them, or even never remember them.
